Our Story
In summer 2006, members of Florida Street Baptist Church hosted Vacation Bible School for the children in the Glenwood neighborhood. This led to the creation of a children's Sunday School class, but ultimately we found that Wednesday evening services were drawing more attendance. As our numbers increased, we started offering a fellowship dinner for all school-aged children who were attending Bible study. We had volunteer helpers from UNCG, South Elm Street Baptist Church, and other local church groups join our ministry.

We chose the name "Common Ground" for our ministry to reflect the diversity and unity of our community. While the ministry grew over the next ten years, we continued to meet at Florida Street Baptist Church. In 2017, the church decided to donate a small house to our group so that we could continue our ministry in Glenwood. As part of this transition we became the 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation under the name "Florida Street House, Inc.". Today we are continuing to renovate the house while we host weekly worship and Bible study.
